Today’s task: Write a post based on the contrast of two things – whether people, objects, emotions, places or something else. Twist: Write it in the form of a dialogue.
“Get up! On your feet! If you do it now, you have the rest of the night to relax, put your feet up, have a drink – anything!”
“But remember, you’re very comfortable. You’ve managed to find that place in the couch that has been imprinted specifically for your butt. If you do it later, you can continue watching this rerun of Seinfeld – undisturbed!”
“Don’t talk yourself out of this again. If you do, you’ll be right back here again when it comes time for you to do it. Just get it done. C’mon!”
“But … feel that blanket? That’s a thousand fibres sewn together for YOUR comfort. You’ve got it tucked in on the sides, and up around your neck, it’s a cocoon of comfort you mustn’t leave it!”
“The blanket will be there for you when you return. Do you really need to finish watching this episode you’ve seen over 10 times? You know that Kramer rubs butter all over his body and sun tans on the roof. You KNOW this. Hop up. Maybe if you finish what needs to be done you could have … a treat?!”
“A treat…? What kind of treat?”
“Perhaps you could have a piece of chocolate for your hard work.”
“Ah fuck it.” I dragged my ass off the couch and completed my daily writing assignment.
Yeah – sometimes it can be a drag. But – always worth it.
