Writing 101 – An Attempt to be Brief.

Today’s Prompt: You stumble upon a random letter on the path. You read it. It affects you deeply, and you wish it could be returned to the person to which it’s addressed. Write a story about this encounter.

I flip the letter over to see who it’s intended recipient is. Mrs. Angelina Beaudreau. No address. Not sealed, I flip open the envelope and read the letter. The taste of my heart fills my mouth. Do I know her? She must live around here if I accidentally received the letter. I frantically look her up in the phone book, Facebook, anything. I cannot find her. In a frenzy, I blaze through the neighbourhood in the hopes that I’ll find someone who may know her. No one knows. Exhausted, I fall to my knees on my front lawn, letter slipping out of my fingers. I catch the top few words of the letter out of the corner of my eye.

“We’re so sorry to inform you that…” I blink my eyes shut. I cannot read it again.

  1. I loved your story line and the ending. The part of looking her up in the phone book and on Facebook created a frenzy, but driving up and down the street was too far reaching for me. Sorry, I found it distracted from your finely crafted story, and I could not forget it as I read on. I would have liked something different in place of this. The rest was captivating and your ending was superb…almost made me tear up. Nice job!
